Bringing kids home from public school immediately like this will feel like a vacation to them at first. Let them de-school first! Let them sleep in. Let them enjoy some freedom. It won't hurt them. Let them be kids.
Realize that homeschool does not take anywhere close to the same amount of time that public school does. Your child can most likely get through their school work in 2 hours or less. Remember, this doesn't mean learning is done for the day.
Learning through out the day does and WILL happen. Are you cooking or baking today? Include your children, have them measure and learn fractions and LIFE SKILLS. If my 9 year old can make chocolate chip banana bread from scratch all by herself since she was 7, yours can too!
Stop trying to provide a full day schedule for your child. They will learn to work independently and be creative. They will come up with their own creative outlets. Trust me, give them a recycling bin and they will make some pretty cool crafts without help from mom or dad!
And last but not least, you can totally not "school" your child for the next 6 weeks and guess what will happen? Nothing. Yep. Nothing. They will be fine. It won't hurt them. At all. They will pick right back up where they left off and survive. And you know what, being the smartest, most intelligent and advanced kid is cool, but what's even cooler is teaching kids how to be kind, be friendly, be themselves, love and help others.
These are academic resources that have been identified by Mat-Su Central staff and families. They are simply resources that you may want to check out as you explore options for your kids
Possibly the most important part of being able to learn at home, is to practice good emotional health. No one learns well when they are overly anxious or concerned. Please take time for yourself and your families. It really is what's most important.
