Get Wild! Wilderness Survival Skills Workshop and Field Trip

Got wilderness skills?
This workshop is a mix of indoor classroom & outdoor hands on training designed to build your wilderness skills. Students will learn teamwork, leadership skills, essential elements for survival, shelter building, fire facts, water sources and purification and edible plants. The class will culminate in a fun field trip to the Eagle River Nature Center where we will practice our fire and shelter building skills. This workshop & field trip is designed for grades 4- 7.

  • Dates and Location: Mat-Su Central: September 27 & 28, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM.
  • Field trip to Eagle River Nature Center: September 29, 9:15 AM - 2:15 PM.
  • Cost: $65 per student. Each student will receive a copy of the "Survival Handbook" and a survival kit (including flint and steel). The cost of this workshop will be automatically deducted from the student allotment.

Field Trip Itinerary:
Arrive at MSCS at 9:15am. Board the school bus at 9:30am. The Eagle River Nature program will run from 10:30am - 12:30pm followed by a sack lunch at the center. We will return to MSCS at approximately 2:15 PM
Note: The Eagle River Nature Center requires individuals to wear masks while indoors. Most of our activity will be outdoors mask free.

Special Instructions: Dress for the weather, and bring a sack lunch to be enjoyed at the Eagle River Nature Center.
