Glacier Trekking (for grades 5-8)

Event Description

Glacier Trekking for grades 5th - 8th:
You are invited to hike and explore the Matanuska Glacier! Dorothy Adler, founder of North America Outdoor Institute and Wilderness Emergency Medical Education, and her team will guide us a 4 mile trek through a cobalt blue icy wonderland. We will explore glacial features and learn more about this amazing river of ice at the foot of the Chugach Mountains.
Students need to be able to carry a backpack with lunch, snacks, water bottle, weather appropriate layers for being on the glacier. Students need to be able to hike roughly 4 miles roundtrip over uneven terrain. Students must have good sturdy hiking boots.
Hiking crampons will be supplied.

7:20 AM: Check in at MSC
7:30 AM: Depart MSC on AK Premier Tour Bus...that's right! We're riding in style!
9:00 AM: Check in at Mat Glacier- begin hiking adventure!
12:00 - 12:30 PM: Sack lunch (students bring their own lunch)
4:00 PM: Board the tour bus and return to MSC
5:30 PM: Estimated arrival back at MSC
