MSC News

Dear Parents and Students,

On Saturday, February 26, 2022, 8-10th graders will have the opportunity to take the PSAT® at Mat-Su Central Wasilla campus. Taking the PSAT® can encourage a student to start thinking seriously about life after high school, about college and career goals, and about the education needed to reach those goals. The PSAT has been designed to mirror the SAT®.

Taking the PSAT® provides the following advantages to students:

  • It measures the reading, math, and writing skills needed for college and career planning. After the test, students will retrieve their online score report that will highlight opportunities to strengthen academic skills. Students can use the score report to show strengths and weaknesses pertaining to college readiness.
  • Prepares students for taking the SAT.
  • The Student Search Service® gives PSAT® test takers the option to voluntarily place their names and addresses in a pool of college-bound students interested in receiving admission and financial aid information from certified colleges, universities and scholarship agencies.
  • It provides valuable information to parents and students on student potential for advanced academics in high school. The College Board has partnered with Khan Academy® to provide free SAT online practice. The customized test preparation will offer skill-based videos and practice SAT questions to support students who have taken the PSAT®. When students get their score report, they can link their College Board and Khan Academy accounts to get free personalized learning plans based on test performance.

The PSAT fee is $18 (8-9th grade) $14 (10th grade) and will be deducted from the student allotment.
