Dear Mat-Su Central High School Seniors and Families,

We hope this message finds you and your family healthy.  Thank you for your efforts to follow the CDC and State of Alaska guidance on social distancing and other measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Last night the Mat-Su Borough School Board unanimously voted to allow a one-time waiver of our school district's 24.5 credit requirement to earn a diploma, allowing seniors this year to graduate by satisfying the State of Alaska's minimum requirement of 21 credits. This one-time waiver applies solely to the classes of 2020 and 2019.

The Superintendent also announced that all MSBSD high school graduation ceremonies this year will be conducted via Facebook Live and recorded for later viewing.  We understand that this news will be heart breaking for many of our seniors and their families. Please know that Mat-Su Central staff will do everything we can to make this a meaningful celebration for our seniors.

As soon as we receive the specific details of these two changes, we will be sure to get you that information.  We expect to a have a much more detailed explanation from District Office of how the 21 credit minimum will be implemented soon.

Thank you for your patience and efforts to keep all members of our community safe.  Do not hesitate to reach out to your advisor if you have specific questions or any of the staff at Mat-Su Central.

Honored to be your principal,
John Brown
