Class Description

High school eSports is back for another season at Mat-Su Central School! The world of competitive video games (or eSports) is exploding among colleges and high schools across the country. Currently, over 75 universities offer scholarships for students in eSports, and here in Alaska the state-wide high school league will be entering its fourth year!

ALL MATCHES AND MOST PRACTICES WILL TAKE PLACE FROM HOME. Students will log in to participate from home in weekly strategizing, practice, and coaching sessions online. We still hope to get students together for in person team building opportunities at fun places like the trampoline park, bowling alley, and much more! Students will still need to be eligible according to District guidelines to play in league matches.

Projected Spring Match schedule: League of Legends
Monday Virtual Practice from 10am-1pm (start date: TBD)
Tuesdays Remote Match Play 3pm-5:30pm
Coach: Mr. Heath Hassen, Contact Heath.hassen@matsuk12.us

Students will work on communication, strategizing, team play, analysis, and coordination. Permission slip required. Part of this team/class includes conversations about balance and maintaining healthy limits with video game play and being positive ambassadors for this growing sport.
