Every year we try to purchase devices ahead of time to support the needs of families in our program. These are the devices that are in shelf stock this year.
Mac computers are the industry standard in the creative technologies. These computers perform all necessary functions that students would need.
Current Models: Intel i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
iPads offer more and more levels of functionality and access. These tools are better than Chromebooks for students looking to use technology for creative endeavors.
Current Models: 7th Gen 10.2", 32GB
Chromebooks are a solid system for basic computing and internet accessible applications. Their cost makes them very appealing.
With the unprecedented need for devices and issues surrounding logistics for ordering devices for education (worldwide),
we also want to support families’ needs in procuring devices. To this end, MSC supports the purchase of new computers
with your own funds and for you to be reimbursed.
Follow Device Guidelines to ensure your purchase is eligible for allotment reimbursement.
Note: Always check with your advisor first. Complete the form for pre-approval here.
As with all non-consumables, devices must be tagged as property of the MSBSD in order to be reimbursable, and will either need to be returned or bought out (see depreciation schedule below) if you leave Mat-Su Central. The Accounting department will help with this process.
*If any device you believe you need to have for educational purposes is above these costs, you will need both advisor and administrative/technology approval. Your advisor will help with this. You will also need to provide accompanying reasoning for why the requested device is needed to support your child’s learning plan.
*MSC staff cannot support personally bought devices at the same level (if at all) that we can shelf stock items.
For parents and/or students interested in purchasing eligible items, the depreciation purchase schedule for equipment, books and computers is based as follows.
-The purchase price is 50% following one year of student use.
-The purchase price is 25% following two years of student use.
-The purchase price is 10% following three years of student use.
-The purchase price is $1 following four years of student use.
