Password Support

The Mat-Su Borough School District provides students with accounts that allow them access to different district-paid-for services.  Some of those include Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Clever, iStudent, and many more.  The district requires students to update passwords periodically (usually at least once a year).  In order to do this, please use the resources below and always feel free to contact our local support if you have any issues.

Before beginning, you will need to know your student’s MSBSD ID and password.  You can find your student’s ID on the Parent Portal.
  1. Navigate in a web browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) to https://fs.matsuk12.us/adfs/portal/updatepassword
  2. Your student’s current password, if not already changed will be one of the following:
    K-2
    – alaska
    3-12
    – student ID (ex. jn08035)
  3. Create new password – requirements below
    Grades K-2 – Not required to be changed – 5 Characters
    Grades 3-8 – 8 Characters
    Grades 9-12 – 8 Characters – At least one character from 3 of the 4 groups (uppercase, lowercase, number, special character)
  4. Click Submit

Application Support

Google Applications

Google Applications refers to an online file storage and productivity suite that anyone with a Google (Gmail) account.  Google accounts are also available to all students for free through the MSBSD.  Please follow the instructions below to access your student Google Applications.

Before beginning, you will need to know your student’s MSBSD ID and password.  If you need your student’s password reset, please review the Password Support.
  1. Navigate in a web browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) to drive.google.com
  2. Enter your student account info (first and last initials and ID numbers with @apps.matsuk12.us)
    Example: John Smith 104567 would be js104567@apps.matsuk12.us
  3. At the next Mat-Su District screen, enter the student ID (ex. js104567) and the student password.

Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) are available at no charge to students at Mat-Su Central.  To download these applications on your computer, please follow the steps below.

Before beginning, you will need to know your student’s MSBSD ID and password.  If you need your student’s password reset, please review the Password Support .
  1. Navigate in a web browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) to https://clever.com/in/msbsd/student/portal
  2. Enter your student account info (first and last initials and ID numbers with @ad.matsuk12.us)
    Example: John Smith 104567 would be js104567@ad.matsuk12.us
  3. At the next Mat-Su District screen, enter the student ID (ex. js104567) and the student password.

Device Purchase Options

Purchase From Us

Every year we try to purchase devices ahead of time to support the needs of families in our program. These are the devices that are in shelf stock.

Apple Macbooks, ~$$$

CPU Apple M2, Memory 16GB, Storage 256GB, Display 13.6-inch.

Mac computers are the industry standard in the creative technologies. These computers perform all the necessary functions that students would need.

Pros

  • High-end applications
  • Hold value / functionality
  • Very durable

Cons

  • Not up-gradable

iPads, ~$$

iPad 10th generation, Storage 256GB, Display 10.9-inch.

iPads offer more and more levels of functionality and access. These tools are better than Chromebooks for students looking to use technology for creative endeavors.

Pros

  • More portable and accessible than a laptop, or Chromebook
  • Creative applications
  • Hold value / functionality

Cons

  • Less Expandability
  • Rapid Obsolescence

Chromebooks, ~$

CPU Intel Celeron, Memory 4GB, Storage 32GB, Display 11.6-inch.

Chromebooks are a solid system for basic computing and internet accessible applications. Their cost makes them very appealing.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Better battery life than most laptops
  • Education-focused Chromebooks can simplify management tasks and optimize learning environments

Cons

  • Internet access required
  • Limited applications

Purchase Yourself (Speak first with your advisor)

Families are encouraged to purchase devices directly from MCS (we can't service other devices the same at MCS devices), but we recognize that different students have different needs. MCS has a tech specialist who can help with additional information.

As with all non-consumables, devices must be tagged as property of the MSBSD in order to be reimbursable, and will either need to be returned or bought out (see depreciation schedule below) if you leave Mat-Su Central. The Accounting department will help with this process.

Device Depreciation Schedule

For parents and/or students interested in purchasing eligible items, the depreciation purchase schedule for equipment, books and computers is based as follows. Beginning with the 2020-21 school year, one year equals 365 days of use.

The purchase price is 50% following one year (365 days) of student use.*
-The purchase price is 25% following two years of student use.
-The purchase price is 10% following three years of student use.
-The purchase price is $1 following four years of student use.  

*Graduating seniors should consult with their advisor about exceptional circumstances.
