Class Description

This class applies the science of reading principles in phonemic awareness, systematic phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension lessons, as well as a precise form of penmanship and cursive. This class uses a structured literacy approach to teaching language arts, particularly reading, writing, and spelling, that emphasizes phonics, explicit instruction, and multisensory techniques. It's based on the principle that understanding the relationship between sounds and letters (phonemes and graphemes) is crucial for developing reading, writing, and spelling skills. From this, students learn to decode higher-level texts and become skilled readers, writers, and communicators. "Reading Foundations" utilizes "The Spalding Method."
