Heads up on AK Star Testing
- Families work with their advisor to determine how student proficiency will be demonstrated using a variety of standardized assessment options. For students in grades 3–9, the primary assessment is the AK STAR.
- While no single test captures everything a student can do, AK STAR provides meaningful feedback for families, advisors, the district, and the state—and it allows our students to demonstrate the high-quality learning happening at Mat-Su Central.
- More information will be shared closer to the testing window: April 13–24.
Is MCS the right fit?
- This semester, we are welcoming over 130 new students, and enrollment continues to grow. We recognize that life circumstances change, and families sometimes need to transition their educational plan. That can include students joining Mat-Su Central, but it may also mean determining that another educational model is a better fit.
- Our program requires a high level of family engagement. If academic progress is not being made and/or consistent communication is not occurring, an advisor may guide a family toward a different educational setting that better meets their needs. Our goal is always the same—to help every student find the environment where they can thrive.
Feedback: MCS thrives thanks to the creative insights from our home educators. If you have any ideas for how we can continue to improve our program, please share with us here.
Honored to partner with you,
Jason Moore and Nathan Chud
