Families of Mat-Su Central,

As Alaska continues to decide whether we’re in winter, spring, or summer, the end of the school year is approaching without the weather’s permission! As always, check out our full calendar here, and keep an eye on the website for the most up to date information. In the meantime, here are some important highlights.

New School Update & Opportunity to Advocate:

  • We encourage you to drive by our new school site (behind Pioneer Peak Elementary) to glimpse the progress that is being made. This dream is quickly becoming a reality!
  • Due to budget cuts, the Music Room and MPR (Gym) are not currently included in the building plans. However, we have been asked to give a presentation to the MSBSD School Board tonight to advocate that these two vital elements be incorporated. There is a section of the meeting dedicated to public comment on action/non-action items, and we would love for any parents or students who feel strongly about this to speak as well. Look HERE for details on tonight’s meeting at 6pm. Hope to see you there!

Building Protocol: Friendly reminder that MCS is not a “drop-off” program. Students should always be under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian unless they are on-site for a specific class, club, meeting, or workshop. As a K-12 school with a revolving door, this helps us maximize flexible schedules while continuing to ensure student safety. Participation in the on-site program is not required; it is both a choice and a privilege.

New Enrollees in 2024-25: Do you know a family interested in attending MCS next year? Encourage them to attend one of our MCS 101 orientations. Beginning in mid-April, families can also indicate their interest by completing a form that will be posted on the homepage of the website.

Put It On Your Calendar: Here are a number of dates to keep in mind…

  • Graduation: MCS Graduation is May 17 at 3pm. For a complete checklist of all the tasks each senior needs to complete before then, click here
  • Prom Tickets: April 26 is MCS prom. For tickets and more information, click here
  • K-8 students are encouraged to showcase their creations at the MCS Talent Faire on May 1.
  • Reimbursement Deadlines: May 4 all receipts dated January 1 to April 30 must be submitted.

Feedback: MCS thrives thanks to the creative insights from home educators. If you have any ideas for how we can improve our program, please share with us here

Honored to partner with you,
